Here is a little country-blues song I wrote last summer. I found it in the archives a few days ago and had a laugh. Hopefully you will too!
Verse 1
(G) I’m just not woke enough
(C) I’m undereducated
(D7) Never took any ethnic studies
(G) To the sciences I was fated
(G) My voice cannot be heard
(C) Now in silence I must stay
(D7) I have too damn much privilege
(G) And there are things I cannot say.
Chorus - kick up the tempo a bit...
(G) Boys are boys, and girls are girls
(C) Genders they are not pliable
(D7) Everyone else is just confused
(G) Our genes are quite reliable.
(G) It’s the content of our character
(C) Our color it is not.
(D7) I believe that All Lives Matter
(G) And looters should be shot.
Verse 2
(G) I’m just not woke enough
(C) I cannot understand
(D7) How whiteness makes me fragile
(G) Even though I am quite tan
(G) And so, I listen to my betters
(C) The shame it piles high
(D7) This thing I cannot overcome:
(G) I’ll always be a white guy.
Chorus
(G) Boys are boys, and girls are girls
(C) Genders they are not pliable
(D7) Everyone else is just confused
(G) Our genes are quite reliable.
(G) It’s the content of our character
(C) Our color it is not.
(D7) I believe that All Lives Matter
(G) And looters should be shot.
